Batch production of new KamAZ-5490 tow trucks is to start this September. This vehicle will be the first KamAZ car to be inspired by freight trucks of Mercedes, which owns 15% of the Naberezhnie Chelny based car factory. This model will be powered by the 16V 12 Li 428 hp Daimler OM 457LA turbodiesel engine that meets Euro-5 standard. The new tow truck will also get the same axles as Mercedes trucks, while its gearbox will be German too—produced by ZF brand. Another part of the truck, its cabin, however with a distinctive look, will be mainly inspired by Mercedes-Benz Axor.
